About the Author
Howard Pyle was a successful American author and illustrator, many of whose books are aimed at younger readers. After only a few formal lessons in artistic techniques, Pyle initially began his career creating illustrations for magazines, finally publishing his first work in Harper s Weekly at the age of twenty-five. Pyle s career took off, and he was soon creating his own stories and publishing illustrated books for children. His most famous work is The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood, which was the first cohesive retelling of the medieval legend of Robin Hood. His other famous works include Men of Iron, a tale about knighthood, and a four-volume collection about King Arthur. Howard Pyle died in Florence in 1911 at the age of fifty-eight.

Yes, this is a pirate, adventure, romance book. It's pretty good!

I don't know what about Howard Pyle's writing appeals to me. Maybe it's the impressive grammar, the stunningly correct use of language he uses to paint a picture that jumps into my conscience and becomes a grand movie in my mind. Or the twists and turns, the unpredictability of the tale, the endlessly wicked rogues, the palpable atmosphere...who knows? I just enjoy his stories very much, and in fact I sometimes read them more than once! This is most rare for me, because there is so much to read, and so little time...
Anyway, this one is a keeper.
The story is memorable, unfolds with much drama and many thrills...just read it.

Woody's weakened body rejected the transplant, and his prospects were few. But when former NBA all-star player Brian Grant stepped in to help, the family dared to hope again. Grant launched one of the largest bone marrow drives in the history of Oregon and Washington. He did this not to only help save Woody's life but to double the number of African American marrow donors in these two states.

With Grant's help and his mother's support, Woody fought bravely, but the cancer was too strong. Here, she tells her story in the hopes of inspiring, informing, and educating other mothers, fathers, families, and friends.

So truthful it captures your heart

This is a mother's honest struggle when her young teenaged son is diagnosed with a disease that eventually was terminal, and she doesn't hold back anything, even when she is at her lowest point, she shows us how a mom will do whatever she has to do to try and save her child.

This is a great book and a must read. Very inspirational, emotional, joyful, educational and touching.
If you've lost a loveone to cancer, still battling the disease or have survived cancer you must read this loving heartfelt story.
I like to thank the Author for sharing her story. It not just one book but several in one and what's awesome, is for all ages to understand.
I loved it and it's a keeper.

While I have never met the author,I feel as if I have known her my whole life. Her writing style is like sitting across the table and talking with an old friend. This is an amazing
journey through her life, and the touching story of her Son's battle against Leukemia. I have the Kindle edition and it is wonderful. Whatever version you get... don't pass up this book. As a Mother
who has also lost a child to Leukemia, I have walked this path. It is inspirational and gives you motivation to reach for every goal you have.

R. Allan Freeze is former Professor and Director in the Geological Engineering Program at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Groundwater

Overall a very good book. This is the text our Hydrogeology professor, Dr.J.Toth used in the 80's. It covers a great deal of information on facies,flow nets, hydrologic cycle, chemical evolution, groundwater resource evaluation, contamination, groundwater processes and a really good section on chemical principles and mass action. This is not a quantitative text, the discussions on finite difference and finite element methods include very little math. I would have also liked to have seen a better discussion of well hydraulics. I still turn to it for a reference as it is a very useful book.

A rigorous and quantitative basic reference

This is a good complement to "Groundwater Hydrology" by Todd. Freeze and Cherry is more detailed, rigorous, and quantitative than Todd, but it doesn't communicate the big picture quite as well. As well as an undergraduate textbook, this book is an essential resource for anyone working in the field.

As Good as Others

This book is a one for all kind of book, which is a good thing to have as a reference. The authors are mainly researchers, thus more theories than practical side explained. So, as a hydrogeologist , I also use other books by Todd, Bouwer, and Fetter at works.

I don't know why Dr. John A. Cherry does not include more on the groundwater contamination, as he is one of the "stars" on that field.

Are colonialism and the colonial idea really dead?�

Colonialism has had a profound effect on our lives. Every aspect of our day-to-day existence from our world views to our eating preferences has been touched by the colonial experience. On the world stage a range of contemporary preoccupations and ills – from globalization to humanitarian intervention to international terrorism – have colonialism somewhere in their genetic make-up.

In this extraordinary new guide, MacQueen addresses the key theories of colonialism and examines them against contemporary realities. In contrasting the varied European ‘philosophies’ of colonialism: French and Portuguese ‘ultra-nationalism’ on the one hand and British Imperial ‘pragmatism’ on the other, MacQueen exposes their profoundly contradictory effects on the way different empires ended in the twentieth century. These endings in turn affected the entire nature of modern day international relations.�

While Colonialism exposes the hypocrisies�underlying colonial policies, MacQueen concludes that the continuous rehearsal of moral outrage is, in practical terms, irrelevant.� Though colonialism is rightly offensive to contemporary liberal sensibilities, it is 'ahistorical' to project these on other times.� However, the 'colonizing instinct' may still be alive in the (primarily western) discourses of governance and moral 'cosmopolitanism'.�

Norrie MacQueen is a senior lecturer in international relations at the University of Dundee. He has lived, worked and travelled extensively throughout the colonial and post-colonial world.
