A good solid HTML5 book.
By portsample
I bought this book to help me migrate a 2005 vintage mobile data collection application to a modern codebase. HTML5 seems to make sense for this given the platform flexibility that it offers as well as the recent inclusion of SQLite in the HTML5 codeverse. Ms. Weyl's book appears at first blush to be an excellent jumping off point for this project with early chapters devoted to setting up the development environment, device emulation, as well as aspects of HTML5 that previous users of this language may not be familiar with. This book has a good number of examples that are supported by a website w/downloadable code. In addition, Ms. Weyl's writing style is clear and readable with examples as well as explanations to support her advice and wisdom.
Hopefully she has an "Advanced HTML5 for Mobile Devices" in the wings.

Even though the title says "Mobile" this book is about as HTML5 comprehensive as it gets
By David Gregory
This is just as good for HTML5 in general as it is tailored to mobile. It's very evident that Estelle put in a lot of research and time to give us all this information including browser nuances. Her work exposing the differences in HTML5 forms is immensely helpful. It explains every new or revised form element, what it's supposed to do, and how different browsers actually implement them.
The book is no small read, not a book to try and read cover to cover in one sitting.. (or even five). This is one of those books you can refer to often. It's helped me quite a few times already, not just with mobile but also with HTML5 in general.

Get the paperback, not Kindle
By Dennis Reinhardt
The Kindle format has several weaknesses in its programming that become apparent reading a reference book like this. Kindle is OK for reading novels, but not valuable for reference works.
Mobile HTML5 has an extensive index that would have been very valuable in the paperback but of low value in Kindle. You can GoTo the start of the index and then scroll through to the entry you want. I gave up while still in the A's (or B's). Scrolling just takes too long. You can bypass the index by using search but the search results are not efficient either. Each search result has 5 lines of snippet with the search term highlighted and a useless, wasted line telling you the location. As a result, you have only 3 results per screen. So, it is back to scrolling.
The table of contents is difficult to navigate as well. A triangular hot spot for toggling chapter and major sub-sections expands the chapter entry to include major sections. The hot spot is too small and it is way to easy to be taken to the chapter instead.
As it turned out, the book is introductory and less a reference. For that, I would give the book content 4 stars. It got me started. The overall 3 star rating is that the Kindle format makes this a book I will avoid going back to, even for the parts I might want to find again.
