A Forgotten Classic of World War II
By bibliomane01
It seems that Irwin Shaw is mainly remembered for light popular novels such as "Rich Man, Poor Man" and "Beggarman, Thief," and "Nightwork," but he was also a great writer of short stories (a former star for the New Yorker) and in "The Young Lions" he emphatically staked his claim to be numbered among the great American war novelists. In my opinion, Shaw's book belongs in the company of "The Red Badge of Courage," "A Farewell to Arms," "The Naked and the Dead," and "Catch-22." Hopefuly this new edition from Chicago will help to bring a forgotten classic of World War II before a new audience. Many war novels hover uneasily at the brink of sentimentality and melodrama, and many more simply fall in. But in this story about three young soldiers who are "The Young Lions" of the title, with their hopes, fears, loves and hatreds, Shaw's touch is deft and his clear, smooth prose leads the reader through an absorbing and tragic story that remains as fresh and moving today as it was when it first written over half a century ago.

Lots of shades of grey.....
By A Customer
I'm a 30 year old person that was born and raised in the Netherlands and for the last 4 years has been living and working in Germany. I've allways been interested in novels, films and documentaries about the second world war. Living in the Netherlands and Germany I have been able to notice the differences in the way both countries try to cope with the war. Generalizing one could say that in the Netherlands emphasis is more on having been victims, wheras in Germany, people try to face the fact that a lot of their fathers and/or grandfathers were war criminals. A simple and clear picture: they were "good" and the others were "bad" Reading "The Young Lions", you more and more see the similarities between soldiers in the opposing armies: they have the same background, the same fears, the same hopes, they are just puppets of different rulers. They are not just good or bad, they just want to survive and go home. Shaw's book shows how horrible war is to every soldier. In war there is no black and white, just many shades of grey.....

A great storyteller --and his greatest story
By Birdman
There were dozens of novels based on World War II, but only three that captured American readers by storm. Mailer's THE NAKED AND THE DEAD, Jones's FROM HERE TO ETERNITY and Shaw's THE YOUNG LIONS. Of the three, the most compulsively readable and the least self-conscious is Irwin Shaw's absolutely beautiful novel of love and loss during World War II. If there is a better sculptor of character in 20th century American fiction, I'd like to know who it is. Shaw has a knack for creating palpable characters (including some you'd ordinarily hate -- such as an errant Nazi) who live and breathe. All of his characters -- from Christian and Michael to Hope -- are people we care about, and many of the great historic scenes of the war come alive for even the most casual reader. The subplots (and there are quite a few of them) are integrated seamlessly and the pace is relentless and exciting. One wonders why Shaw never tried to repeat this stunning performance, but perhaps novels as fine as this only occur once in a lifetime. If you want to sink into a richly detailed, compulsively readable saga of World War II, this is the genuine article. A pity there aren't six stars.

Amazon.com Review
Aimed at the working Delphi developer, Delphi in a Nutshell is an effective desktop reference to this popular programming tool. Besides listing all core classes and methods, this book also provides a host of expert dos and don'ts for mastering the newest features in Delphi's Object Pascal.

The heart of this book is its reference sections on built-in Delphi language features and other useful information on this development tool. Each entry has a guide to syntax, a description of all parameters and return values, and code samples, plus many entries feature "tricks and tips" with additional information. While this title concentrates on the "core" language (instead of Delphi's extensive support for visual components), there's little doubt that it will be useful if you work with the tool on a daily basis.

The book also delivers an advanced guide to ramping up on the latest and greatest in new language features in Object Pascal. Material on using classes, and the type of information features available in today's Delphi, are particularly effective. There are a lot of smart tips on proper class design techniques, including using properties, constructors, and destructors. (Delphi has its own conventions here, and this book will fill you in if you are coming to Object Pascal from another programming language.) Along the way, the author offers numerous expert nuggets on when to use (and when to avoid) using certain features. Whether you are a novice or a more experienced developer, this tutorial and reference is all you need to be productive with the latest and greatest in object-oriented programming with Delphi. --Richard Dragan

Topics covered: Overview of Delphi Object Pascal, units and libraries, data and string types, exception handling, file I/O, classes and objects, inheritance, constructors and destructors, interfaces, reference counting, Windows messages, memory management strategies, virtual method tables (VMTs), properties, using TypInfo, virtual and dynamic methods, automated methods and COM, Delphi type information and RTTI, concurrent programming with threads, synchronization, thread local storage techniques, Delphi language reference, system constants, operator reference, compiler directives, code samples, and programming tips.

Review
'... in my view it is the best Delphi Pascal reference around, if only for the great tips and tricks that really are relevant.' - Bob Swart Developers Review, August 2000. "While this not the only book you'll ever need on Delphi, it is likely to be one of the most useful you'll ever buy." Programming, August 2002

A much needed text on innovation execution
By Jeff Lopes
When it comes to innovation in a large company finding great ideas is the easy part- especially when you're fortunate enough to be surrounded by thousands of the most knowledgeable, intelligent, and hard working people in your field. The hard part is taking those ideas and translating them into new business efficiently and without harming the ongoing operations that make your company great today.

For anyone involved in an innovation effort this book is almost as therapeutic as it is inspirational and instructional. The author was not only able to very clearly identify and articulate many of the struggles involved in a successful innovation effort but also frame them in such a way as to allow the reader to fully understand their origins and how best to resolve them.

For me reading this book really made everything click. It filled in gaps in my personal understanding that were acting as roadblocks to making truly significant progress and then built upon that foundation to provide a solid framework upon which all innovation teams should incorporate into their own processes and ideology. Needless to say I very highly recommend anyone involved in the innovation process to read and understand the principles taught in this book.

Tremendously applicable, regardless of industry or seniority
By Boston Doc
It's been my experience that books on innovation tend to "miss." They are typically either so rooted in specific case studies that drawing any general conclusions is impossible (the whole point of the exercise), or they feel like they were written by a life coach as opposed to a business strategist who has sat in the war room, fired, hired, and solved.

This book is neither of those things. What it is, is absolutely superb. Vijay Govindarajan is less a student of innovation than he is of the people, business engines, corporate realities, and interconnectedness that ties them all together. He writes simply and unpretentiously, and avoids the poisonous pitfall of using his book to shout from the academic pulpit "I HAVE SOLVED MAN'S AGE OLD STRUGGLE WITH NEW PRODUCT AND IDEA DEVELOPMENT!" Which, he has not. But he gets close that he has accurately laid out patterns of human behavior that are universal across all industries and companies, excluding aberrant outliers (startups, for one).

I would recommend this book to anyone who has the ability to look critically enough at themselves to recognize that they could be doing better. Five stars, only because six wasn't an option.

Time to give execution its due!
By Marilyn Blocker D/B/A Innovation Outcomes
I agree with many of the reviewers of this book who were pleased to see a book about the less-exciting aspect of innovation: execution. Although not as exhilarating a topic as the fuzzy front end of innovation, execution is CRITICAL!!!

As a seasoned consultant, I can say with some authority that execution is a challenge for at least 90% of my clients, and certainly with the engagements that I've been involved with. Many times organizations believe that their efforts should focus on the important first step of problem identification and then fall short on implementation.

The implementation stage typically involves barrier analysis--and foresight. It takes skill to anticipate obstacles or to deal with them expeditiously as they occur, and we most of us know, this is a large part of the execution/implementation battle.

Govindarajan and Trimble do an excellent job of describing a model that's research-based, yet pragmatic and realistic. Building the right teams are critical to innovation--as is the ongoing task of managing disciplined experiments. So much can be learned by the trial-and-error processes of Thomas Edison, Einstein, DaVinci, etc. and their innovation successes. Yet in the busy work environments of today, learning most often takes a second seat to profits and quick wins.

In concluding, let me say that I've found all of Govindarajan and Trimble's books on innovation helpful and informative, starting with 10 Rules for Strategic Innovators, this book, the companion to this book, a fable entitled How Stella Saved the Farm, and their latest book, Reverse Innovation. All are fascinating reads and all offer pearls of wisdom.

The Birth Famine: if no children, then no future, by Michael Charles Master

Since the 1970s, birth rates in the United States have taken a plunge, yet our population continues to climb. Our census agencies cleverly hide the damning truth behind inflated statistics based on immigrant births. The frightening reality is simple: native-born American citizens are not having enough children to replace themselves.

How has this trend damaged American society over the last four decades, and what does it mean for our future? In The Birth Famine, Michael Charles Master expounds on past mistakes and current crises while offering ways to reverse terrifying trends. Through meticulous research and common sense reasoning, Master reveals the insidious effects of the birth famine on our economy, political system, and family dynamics. He exposes the brutal truth about the ramifications of unchecked immigration. Without mincing words or cowing to political correctness, Master skewers a materialistic modern American culture that values goods over family.

While The Birth Famine is a wake-up call for all Americans, Master reminds us that it’s not too late. Readers will find hope in Master’s sensible and feasible solutions. By encouraging our government and citizens to put family first, we can reinvigorate our nation’s economy, political landscape, and, most importantly, the American spirit.

About the Author

Michael Charles Master holds an MBA from the University of Arizona and has over forty years of experience in the corporate sector. In recent years he’s turned his attention to analyzing America’s social problems with the same analytical prowess he brought to his business career.

In addition to The Birth Famine, he’s the author of Save America Now and Rules for Conservatives. His latest book examines the complex negative relationship between plunging birth rates and our nation’s overall social and economic stability. He piggy backs on the work of Harry Dent about the impact of demographics on America. Above all else, Master considers himself to be a family man and a patriotic American.

Michael Master sees it plain as day: children are our future, not immigrants.
By Walter Mitty
Michael Master sees the problem as plain as day: children are our (American) future, not immigrants.

This is the author's third book and it is his spot-on best.

I have known the author for almost a decade at this point. Michael is a savvy businessman, a brilliant technologist and he loves his country more than most Americans can possibly imagine. He talks to people. He argues with ideological opponents. But he does it as a fellow human being created in the image of God and it is that basic respect that makes his apologia, indeed his argument, carry weight.

In "The Birth Famine" Michael argues that Americans have been cheated of their own progeny. How could anyone maintain otherwise? He lays the blame squarely on the shoulders of his own generation, more specifically the college-educated Baby Boomers that went on to change the world in a way they hadn't quite intended.

You see, on the way to having it all, which is essentially a juvenile preoccupation, Boomers forgot to reproduce themselves. By the time they figured it out, it was more or less too late as their bio-clocks expired. So their parents did what Boomer parents always did: they used their wealth and influence to pay Junior's way out of trouble, this time somewhat self-servingly but none the less by "outsourcing" the grandchildren they didn't have to the cheap and compliant Third World nations of Mexico and Latin America and elsewhere.

This "fix" came at a steep cost. First of all, who really gives a damn about the other guy's kids? I mean really? Secondly, does anyone expect those kids -- or their mamas and papas -- to give a damn about America, from Plymouth Rock to Valley Forge to Gettysburg to Apollo 11?

No, of course not. This generational cuckolding (so named for the cuckoo birds that perfected the trick) was seen as a simple business transaction by the Boomers and their parents but for the rest of us -- those that were never consulted in the first place -- it represents the complete betrayal of almost everything we hold dear. You see, for us "everyone else" our fathers and our fathers' fathers mean something . Our culture means something. Our history means something. Our legacy means something and it means more than cheap lawn mowers and a band-aide over the yawning Social Security finance chasm.

Adding insult to injury, these ersatz children and grandchildren do not resemble the historic American nation in any way. One marvels that a people should apply the dehumanized concept of "mass produced, interchangeable parts" to living, breathing human beings but that is precisely what we have been asked to swallow by the Ruling Class that imposed this situation on us some thirty years ago.

Making the Point

Michael presents his case for this in a clear and easily followed style. He uses logic. He excerpts discussions held with friend and foe to give full weight to all sides of the debate. He of course has facts and evidence, sometime from surprising sources, to buttress what would otherwise be an extravagant claim. Michael argues by analogy, which allows even non-believers to acknowledge his point of view as the same argument is presented in parallel ways from a Christian perspective, from a spiritual/karmic viewpoint and finally from an atheistic, evolutionary perspective that speaks in stark terms about the harsh requirements a species must satisfy to survive.

All three converge on the same point, adding credibility to each in turn: the West is dying of its own selfishness, subsequent to placing momentary distractions ahead of our core purpose of procreation, almost as though the trinkets and silly competitions are a distraction from the existential horror of personal extinction which is, of course, the only possible destiny for the selfishly childless. The implications for the homosexual movement are equally clear and self-evident for the stridency involved. I can't but hope Michael will include apologica nad sanctification to the unintentionally childless not only from their Christian mission of caring for their families with thier unallocated resources, but also from the emerging realization of the Ethnic Genetic Interest theory that posits childless persons further the survival of their genes by working to further their siblings' offspring etc etc.

So, Michael strikes pay dirt with "The Birth Famine" and I hope to God it refreshes and strengthens GenXers and Millenials -- comprised of the small cohort of Boomer kids actually born -- for they have their work cut out for them. They must not only preserve our civilization and the society it needs to flourish but they are left the unenviable task of repopulating the former Christendom before our ancestors' incomparable two-thousand years of sacrifice and toil is rendered for naught.

The objective of our public education policies and electronic media programming is to change the behaviour of children so that they become non-reproductive adults. Labels like GenXers and Millenials do not describe what the females of that generation contributed to population growth. These labels describe the relative modernization of one generation to the next, not the success or failure of that population group to replace and grow itself. At least the Boomer label refers to what the females of their parents generation accomplished. It is more accurate to label each generation by the number of women who decide to have no children, only one child, or a large number of children. As the number of childless females increase, each generation moves closer to Generation Zero, which will ultimately result in Population Collapse, or Endangered Species. If we continue on this path, we will be only one natural or man-made disaster from extinction within a short period of time, say less than 200 years. Do your own survey. Notice how many kids each female has, or ask her how many kids does she think she will have. Also pay attention to the roles of women in movies and television. Many roles require she not have any children. Notice what these women are doing during their peak reproductive years. They are involved in fist fights, sword fights, shoot-outs, jumping through plate-glass windows, diving on grenades in battle, and performing high-speed chases on motorcycles. Somehow, opting out of motherhood is viewed as progress and modern thinking. This is what I call Big Brain versus nature paradox or dilemma. Nature says increase your number, go forward and colonize the solar system; but big brain says no, decrease your number and risk extinction from a single famine, drought, pandemic, natural or man-made disaster. We need to get our big brain under control before it destroys us all. This is why nature evolved a high birthrate way before evolving a big brain. If it wasn't for the high potential birthrate of humans, the big brain would not exist.

Archaeology of Ancient Mexico and Central America: An EncyclopediaFrom Routledge

This is the first comprehensive, one-volume encyclopedia in English devoted to pre-Columbian archaeology of the Mesoamerican culture area.
In more than 500 articles by the major experts in the field, this work brings the most recent scholarship to an examination of regional environments and their cultural evolution. Entries range from the familiar and world-renowned archaeological discoveries of Maya and Aztec sites to more recent excavations such as the Sayil archaeological zone in the Yucatan and Teopantecuanitlan in Guerrero. A rich historical and cultural resource on one of the world's six cradles of civilization, this reference is ideal for students, scholars, and prospective travelers.

From Booklist
Reviewed with Medieval Archaeology.

These titles treat two major fields of inquiry within the discipline of archaeology.

Archaeology of Ancient Mexico and Central America covers the archaeology not only of the region known as Mesoamerica (Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama) but also of the cultural areas where pre-Columbian cultural traits were carried by migrants, from the U.S. Southwest to northern Ecuador. These cultural traits include farming techniques, food preparation, clothing, tools, weapons, games, architectural characteristics, writing, calendars, and religious beliefs. The editors present "a very broad introductory overview briefly summarizing what we know about the earliest human populations, the emergence and spread of food production and the rise of complex societies." The majority of the authors are from U.S. universities.

Each entry is signed and ends with a bibliography. Lengthy entries on topics such as Agriculture and domestication , Ball game , Ceram ics, Clothing , and Gender roles (a relatively recent interest that is gaining importance in Mesoamerican archaeology) are written for the layperson and college student and focus more on cultural anthropology than on technical aspects of archaeology. There are survey articles on groups such as the Aztecs and the Maya and entries for individual archaeological sites from the well-known, such as Cichen Itza, in Yucatan, Mexico, to hundreds of the more obscure. The names of the region and country follow each site in parentheses in the entry heading. Archaeological methods (e.g., Dating methods, Skeletal analysis) are discussed, as are a few important people like Manuel Gamio (1883-1960), one of Mexico's most important archaeologists, and the American George Vaillant (1901-1945).

Of special interest in this work are the tables and charts. For example, one table lists diseases before and after the European contact, and another lists museums with collections of pre-Columbian artifacts in the U.S and Central America.

Margaret Bunson's Encyclopedia of Ancient Mesoamerica (Facts On File, 1996) has a helpful guide to pronunciation, a useful chronological table, and five pages of architectural sites. However, it does not attempt the same breadth of coverage as the volume under review. Archaeology of Ancient Mexico and Central America is an essential purchase for collections devoted to the archaeology of Middle America and Mexico from the Pleistocene to European contact in the mid-sixteenth century.

Though it is playing an increasingly important role in contemporary archaeology, the archaeology of the Middle Ages is still a fragmented field. Crabtree, editor of Medi eval Archaeology, states in her preface, "One of the goals of this encyclopedia is to bring together in one volume the research of a diverse range of scholars who work on a wide variety of archaeological problems." Archaeologists trained in history, anthropology, archaeology, and classics contributed to this work, and only 17 percent are from the U.S. Research by Czech, Polish, Slovak, and Hungarian archaeologists, not available in English until now, is included. Medieval archaeology is defined as beginning with the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century and ending with the dawn of the Modern Era, A.D. 1500. The focus is on "the Latin west stretching from Poland to Ireland and from southern Italy to northern Scandinavia. The Balkans and the Byzantine world are excluded.

Country and regional surveys for areas of Europe with major sites and research programs make up a large portion of the book. There are 17 country overviews, France receiving the most attention with 13 pages as opposed to 4 each for Germany and England. More than 80 sites are represented, with more than a quarter of them in England. At many of the sites, archaeology became important when urban redevelopment unearthed remarkable medieval archaeological finds. World War II bombing raids also exposed sites of interest to medieval archaeologists.

Other entries in the work treat topics such as Animal husbandry , Boatbuilding, Pilgrim souvenirs, and Water supply. There are entries related to archaeological techniques such as dendrochronology (a dating method) and crafts such as pottery and dyeing. The article Gender is especially interesting because the concept was not introduced until the 1980s in prehistoric archaeology and not until 10 years later in medieval archaeology.

There is no encyclopedia with which to compare this work, which is highly readable for nonspecialists. Very little technical language is used. Bibliographies accompany each entry, and a subject guide by country and an index facilitate access. The work is recommended for large public and academic libraries where study of the social and urban aspects of this historical period may be augmented by knowledge gleaned from these digs. REVWR

Excellent Resouce
By S. Taliaferro
This truly massive tome contains over 500 alphabetized entries that provide basic information about pre-columbian culture in mexico and central america. It also contains analysis of all known archaeology sites in the region. I have yet to look up a site that was not mentioned in this book. This is a must have for any student of archeaology interested in this area. The language can be a bit technical, but not to the extent of ruining the book even for the rank amateur. Due to the scope of this book the information is basic and the analysis is cursory but it is still very useful even to a seasoned archaeologist.

How many times have you been on vacation in central america or mexico and seen a road sign or map entry for ruin and wondered about its origin and significance or about the people who lived there? Wonder no more. I only hold a bachelors in archaeology so I am definitely not an expert but it seems that even if you actually work in the field this book is still invaluable as a quick reference guide with a comprehensive indexed listing of the thousands of sites in the region.

About the Author
Rex van der Spuy is a video game designer and writer. He s written Foundation Game Design with Flash, Advanced Game Design with Flash and Foundation Game Design with AS3.0. Rex has designed games and done interactive interface programming Agency Interactive (Dallas), Scottish Power (Edinburgh), DC Interact (London), Draught Associates (London), and the Bank of Montreal (Canada). He also builds game engines and interactive interfaces for museum installations for PixelProject (Cape Town). He claims, that this is a lot more entertaining than you might think, but we re skeptical.

When given lemons...make lemonade.

This is a book on making games for web browers from Rex van der Spuy, who is well-known for his books on Flash game programming. The source code is available at the Apress site, and I recommend downloading it if you are considering buying this book. What you will find is that he able to build an impressive set of games, almost matching his work in the Flash environment.
The text of the book is clear and concise, as we have come to expect from van der Spuy. He doesn't waste time bemoaning the weakness of the JavaScript language or complaining about the deficiencies of the HTML5 platform. He just gets to work and shows you how to make your game work in this environment.
As an experienced game programmer, I found this book very helpful in porting my games to the HTML5 platform, better than the other books I've read. If you are trying to learn game programming, van der Spuy is a great teacher, but you probably would be better served learning game programming in Flash before tackling HTML5.
Either way, this book is well worth buying. I initially bought the Kindle edition, and I found it so useful that I bought the print edition as well.

A must have for all new game developers
By Scot Matson
I purchased this book early this year but have not had a great deal of time to get through it due to school. Now that I've been in the middle of winter break and finally have had a chance to sit down with it... I honestly feel this has been the best purchase I have made since I've been a developer.

A few reviews here have mentioned an abundance of code errors and editorial problems, or issues with their copy of the book but in my experience - this just isn't so. I am halfway through this book and have only found three very insignificant errors so far so if you somehow end up with a bad copy, just contact the publisher or return it for another copy... Keep in mind is is also available through Safari for free if your a student, or you may purchase the eBook edition through Apress.

I've found the Author to explain things very well, the projects throughout the book are incremented in difficulty just perfectly and he keeps things very entertaining. If your not a gamer you may not fully appreciate this book, but then again what are you doing trying to program games then? While you may not end up making the next big console FPS, you will get a handle on basic programming concepts and feel a lot more confident using JavaScript.

I think it is important to understand this book is kind of focused on a niche market, this isn't designed to make you great with graphics, web development, or programming in general. It is purely focused upon using JavaScript to build games... but if you know a thing or two about game development, the logic that is used is fairly difficult and can be applied in other areas once you get a handle on things. An example from the book regarding programming an interactive fiction game explains later that the logic that was used to create items and interact with them is exactly the same type of logic used in databases... so even non-gamers may get something out of this.

I highly recommend this if your looking to understand the logic behind games, if you really want to get involved with the advancement of web based gaming, or are just new to game development and have a web developer background. While this is a great entry level book to this subject, I suggest not picking it up until you at least have some basic programming skills... even Code Academy tutorials should be enough to get prepared for this.

Learned a Ton
By Running Bill
I read this book as sort of a refresher of stuff I had learned programming in Actionscript, but it really taught me so much more. The author gives you a quick run through HTML, CSS, and some Javascript basics, which was actually better than some dedicated books on those subjects because it was succinct. In fact, I recommended it to a friend that wanted to learn HTML and they loved it. He then shows you how to manipulate DOM elements and make some simple games that way, before taking you into the world of Object Oriented Javascript and HTML Canvas games. There were very few typos, despite what someone else mentioned, and the ones that were there were usually in a code comment or some other harmless text. In fact, a few times where I thought there was a typo, the problem was that I hadn't fully grasped it. And all the code examples worked perfectly, so whenever there was doubt, you could always refer to them. And those code samples were invaluable for me. So much to glean in the way of organizing your code as well as building games.

I knocked it down one star because the part about bouncing a ball off another ball wasn't very well explained, and I was really looking forward to that part. I know that it's a deep topic but his suggestion of Googling "vectors" wasn't very helpful for me as I only found more complicated math "stuff" by MIT folks and others far more math-inclined than I am. I must have read that chapter a hundred times but his short, single-sentence explanation of each step didn't help me visualize what I was doing at all, so in the end I just decided to blindly use the code block he provides when the situation comes up. They're about to release a sequel to this that I hope goes into greater detail about this and other physics/trig stuff for programmers that need a bit more guidance visualizing them (I've also discovered Foundation HTML5 Animation with JavaScript, a classic Actionscript dynamic animation book rewritten for Javascript, that I plan to read next). Don't let that one negative deter you from picking this one up. There was PLENTY of material the author did cover and he did a great job explaining it.

By Michele Hughes
In this suspenseful yet heartwarming novel, the author Billy Peters tells of two best friends, and how certain experiences and incidents will forever change their lives. August and Ethan are the two main characters. They met at Ethan’s seventh birthday party where August accidentally spilled blackcurrant juice all over Ethan’s white tie. The two are now nineteen, and their friendship is still stronger than ever, twelve years later. Since then, August and Ethan do everything together, and August’s family is like Ethan’s second because he has a rough home life. Their relationship consists of Ethan teasing August about her adorableness and the two always wanting the best for each other. The biggest struggle for August in the book was going after what she wanted, when she wanted it. This was not always the case, but there were countless times where she had the chance to act on what she wanted but waited for a better opportunity to do so. On the other hand, Ethan struggled by keeping things to himself to spare a burden on those who are close to him. Many times August found out secrets of Ethan’s on her own, or Ethan told her later on when it wasn't as relevant. Ethan sacrifices himself for those that he cares about, often with dangerous consequences. I can’t say how August resolves her struggle because it would spoil some parts of the book, but Ethan never really resolved his struggle, in my opinion. Even as their relationship grew, Ethan still lied to August even though it was to protect her. I enjoyed the fact that the book was written in diary entry form. To me, that aspect made me feel more part of the book and the book was easier to relate to. However, there were some minor grammatical errors in the book along with the setting not being made that obviousown, or Ethan told her later on when it wasn't as relevant. Life will not always be easy and you have to work hard to achieve your goals. In perspective of relationships, this book has taught me to say how you feel. You never will know if the other person feels the same way unless you tell them. If you never tell them, you will miss your opportunity and go the rest of your life wishing you went for it. Overall, I loved this book. As I said before, there were some unrealistic transitions in the book, among with an unrealistic relationship, but besides that I felt myself relating to the characters and the plot scheme throughout the story. I think that this book is great for teenage girls who enjoy reading love stories and I would highly recommend Just Friends.

Simple (but not easy) Recipe to Grow Your Business
By Kristin J. Arnold
When a CEO and client of mine said, "Hey Kristin, you absolutely must read this book," I immediately ordered my copy on Amazon. I flipped through the pages and saw an assessment/checklist right at the beginning along with a visual model called the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). I then started reading and I was hooked.
It's simple and practical advice to grow a small business into a big business, without too many Dilbert words or crazy ideas. The principles, system and tools are based on sound business practices that are simple (but not easy!) to implement. It kind of reminds me of Verne Harnish's Scaling Up: How a Few Companies Make It...and Why the Rest Don't (Rockefeller Habits 2.0), but this book feels more chatty and less intimidating.
I particularly enjoyed Chapters 2-3 which talks about building a true leadership team and the vision it will take to grow the company. Just taking your leadership team through these two chapters and having a frank, robust discussion about the topics and questions sounds like it would be well-worth the investment of time and energy.

Re-shaped how I structured my organization!
By Michael Michelini
Another book I have referred to multiple times that finally gets me to sit down and write a proper review. Heard about this book from the Dynamite Circle and so happy I took the advice and read it. Even such basic things as knowing which departments to use in your company was something that helped me. I have read other great books like Work the System - but this book is much more action oriented and gives good structures for how you should setup your company. I immediately made those departments and organization charts and put the people there. It also forced me to let some people go and also to add some new people - all fitting within this organization chart.

I am going to read this book again, and so glad I found it - if you are serious about making your business a machine and operate without you - this is a solid investment.

Change the game, change your life, win big!
By Dale Berkebile Jr.
So I have been in business some 16 years. I am an expert in my field and even on the bleeding edge of the field over the last few years. I have no formal business education so I studied for years at the school of hard-knocks to get my MBA. I've read every book I could get my hand on. I applied as much as I could, but my business struggled to grow to the size I wanted and needed in order to do the level of business I wanted to do.

I've read most of Michael Gerber's book based on the E-myth concept which I was certainly in. So for 5 to 10 years I worked on the business instead of in it. The big takeaway from all the E-myth books and even several E-myth Worldwide training I did. However as much as I understood the importance of processes and delegating and managing better I still struggled.

Then I had a friend recommend I read Traction and the partner book Get A Grip. WOW! This stuff really made it all click. The years of business study are all now being applied in a simple and manageable way. In the first 30 days of being introduced to Traction, I read it, listened to the audio version twice and read Get A Grip and listened to half of the audio version currently. On top of that I started applying the strategy to my business.

I have never been more focused and more clear about how to hit the big future goals I am going after. I know that over the next 50ish days (of Q4 year end) we will have this system up and running and my business will be in a place it has never been before… accurately predicting future projections, solving real problems and issues forever and growing at pace that we've never experienced before.

I've read Good To Great a few times and you know really struggled with figuring out how a small business like mine could define and create the "right seats" so that we would understand how to attract and keep the "right people" in those seats. Although I didn't get this from Jim Collins book, the theory made sense. Implementation on the other hand was the challenge. Traction took the theory of Good To Great and made it applicable for me.

Now granted I also am now working with EOS Worldwide to roll-out these strategies faster, but that is the thing… Traction is all about application. The book is titled Traction for a reason, reading opens your eye to more than just business theory, it also delivers the tools you need to get traction. At least for my company it seems to be. I have only been at this for 30-40 days and things are sick. I mean we are seriously getting TRACTION! I can't wait to see where we are at in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, and 10 years. At this rate the future is looking pretty darn bright.

If you are a small business owner or small CEO that is frustrated with your company and feels like you've done it all and wasted a ton of cash and time trying every business theory and concept that came along and have little to show for it, then you may want to read Traction. This is the best damn business book I have read EVER! Only because it is real world and it give you more then theory, it actually gives you the tools you need to run and manage your business, your people, your clients, your profits and even your personal life (if you're working like a dog and missing family time, this book will help you get control of your personal life as well)! I highly recommend this book to anyone running a business that feels out of control.

This book is the first of a three (3) volume collation of Judeo Christian biblical verses alongside the original ancient Egyptian text from which they were plagiarized. It is an original collation done by the author. It clearly and explicitly demonstrates and illustrates, many never before seen obvious plagiarisms to be found between the pages of the Bible. This book is a must for any student of both comparative religion and research.

***Give this Brother a Chance! Stop hating on this brother***
By Ribqayah Ra El
Some of the negative comments on here are not necessary! Especially the person that stated, "The book was a waste of her 43 minutes of life she will never get back"! I say to you my sister, your ignorance is what make us as a people continually divided. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions yes, but to go as far as saying ignorant statements as I mentioned, is a d*** shame! Let me ask you a question, have you ever written a book? I didn't think so...Get off this brotha's N*ts and have respect! The brother have a very humble spirit and knows his stuff! Nuff Said!!!!

The information is presented to you, and you are ...
By Timothy D. Johnson
The information is presented to you, and you are left to make your own conclusion. As for me there are far too many similarities (many verbatim) to simply be written off as coincidence. Ahmose has proven that the Ancient Egyptian Text are indeed the source of the content in the Bible.
