Easy Read With Good Reminders
By Kathy Gottberg
I was sent an advance review copy of this book. I wanted to read it because I LOVE the title and am familiar with Brian Tracy's previous work. While most of Tracy's work is focused on business and corporations, I felt this one was a bit more approachable than some others of his I had read in the past. And while he tends to stay on the basic side of why we should "find our balance" he does offer a few tips and suggestions on how we can get there. I felt a few of the best points were:

1) According to Tracy and Christina Stein (Tracy's daughter and co-author) , each of us has a balance point where we feel in perfect harmony, grounded, happy, connected to others, and where our mind, body and spirit are in alignment. As Tracy and Stein say, your balance point is when “You feel at one with the universe.” While I’ve never thought about it exactly this way, I agree.
2) Similar to living what I define as a SMART life, a balanced life is central our happiness and well-being. Finding it helps us avoid lives filled with too much to do, and feeling we have too little time to do it. On the other hand, having “false balance” throws people into addictions and over-consumption.
3) Unfortunately, there is no magic pill or quick-fix. Finding and maintaining our balance point takes time and effort.
4) Who you hang out with matters. Tracy and Stein boldly state that, “Fully 85 percent of your happiness will be determined by having the right people in your life.” While I too tend to believe this is true, I really wish they could have provided a reference behind this claim.
5) We all need meaning and purpose to live a happy and fulfilled life. According to Tracy and Stein, “Each person craves connection to others. Creating something that helps people or providing a service of some kind is one of the best ways to feel connected to something bigger than yourself.”
6) Stein and Tracy say, “In almost every study of successful, happy people, the acceptance of personal responsibility seems to be the starting point of a person’s success.”
7) Like the authors, I agree that it’s critical to stop doing things that take away our joy and satisfaction, and instead organize our lives around those things that bring us peace, satisfaction, joy and value. Their statement, time management is really “life management” deserves to be remembered.
8) I repeatedly say on SMART Living 365.com that, “Everyday we can choose to be happy, loving and live life to its fullest—remember, we get to make it up.” Tracy and Stein say something similar with, “You will be happy only when your choices and your activities are in harmony with your values and beliefs and with what is really important to you.

And while the book is light on references there are good reminders between the pages. About the only thing I didn't care for was how they injected some of the old productivity and goal setting information, along with time management. That felt more like filler than anything that helped create genuine balance in our lives. I think the book could have done without it.

Overall I think this book will appeal most to people who are beginning their search for a happier and more fulfilled life.

Finding your balance point

Bestselling author and well-known speaker, Brian Tracy, has teamed up with Christina Stein to write a new book, “Find Your Balance Point Clarify Your Priorities, Simplify Your Life, and Achieve More.” The book is a quick guide to achieving self-improvement.
This book was written in part to prove that the people are feeling an imbalance in their lives today. Some experts feel the imbalance is occurring because people try to do too much in their lives. Tracey and Stein feel it’s more about people doing the wrong things in their lives including working the wrong job.
I’ve reviewed a number of Tracy’s books and have read more than I’ve reviewed. I’m a big fan of his theories and practices and his books. He’s a great writer. He and his co-writer have written a great self-help book with “Find Your Balance Point.”
They write, “Each of us has a different way of achieving true balance. Each person experiences true balance when she is operating at her own unique balance point. It’s from your balance point that you experience the highest level of clarity, commitment, strength, and confidence to pursue your ambitions.”
This book starts on page one with encouraging readers to look for ways to make needed changes in their lives. The authors tell readers they “have the power, right now, to live a life with no regrets, where you feel fully engaged in your relationships and everything you do.”
The authors address several topics in the book such as being careful about false balance, setting goals and priorities and clarity and planning. There are several worksheets for assessing your life.
One of the standout sections for me was the three components of your self-concept. The authors offer your ideal self, self-image and self-esteem. They also write about determining your values and sticking to them and that your number one top goal should be to achieve true happiness.
There has been a lot of talk over the years about the tipping point. These authors bring on a new version of this and call it the turning points.
They write, “Each person has turning points in life, after which she is never the same again. Sometimes these turning points are clear and distinctive. Sometimes they are so subtle that the person does not realize that a major change has taken place in her life until much later.”
I like this book. It’s a great read for anyone looking for a change or changes in his or her life. It is a short 96 pages long. The book stays positive through the end with the last section offering “Four Ways to Energize Your Life.”
It is one of those books that can be found in the section of my bookshelves that I use daily. I highly recommend the book.

Short, consise book with action plans at the end of each chapter
By Stacie Gorkow
My life was spiraling out of balance and I needed to make some changes or my health was going to be affected. Over the last year, I have reexamined my priorities and started making some changes in how I spend my time. I was overcommitted and doing too much for others which meant my family got my leftovers rather than the best of me. Even though my life isn't perfectly balanced, it is certainly better than it was a year ago. This book has given me even more insight and tips in maintaining that delicate balance between my home life and professional life.

Brian Tracy is a well-known author and motivational speaker. Business experts often hire Tracy or use his books and recordings to motivate their employees and help them with their personal and professional development. His most popular book, often referred by top managers, is KISS THAT FROG! and talks about tackling the biggest project or task on your list first.

In FIND YOUR BALANCE POINT, Tracy has teamed up with therapist Christina Stein, who also happens to be his daughter. In my opinion, this collaboration with Stein helps him reach out to a female audience. Stein focuses on the work-life balance than many of us struggle to perfect and empowers us to make the best choices for ourselves and our family.

Throughout the book, there are many opportunities to complete exercises to reflect on your priorities and values. By focusing on your list of values, a theme will appear that your job, the people in your life, and your priorities will reflect. Having the right people in your circle will result in increased happiness. When your job is reflected in your values and priorities, your emotional and spiritual needs will be met as well. You may find that it isn't that you are doing too many things, but instead you are doing the "wrong" things.

By teaching ways to manage tasks through the action exercises at the end of each chapter, readers can have a real plan in place. Tracy's book is the ideal manual for reaching a goal, achieving balance, finding a new job, finishing a project, or whatever unmet task you've been wanting to tackle. Its short chapters and laid out plan-of-attack will help readers "eat" whatever frog is looming in their life. You may find yourself on a new career path or realize what truly brings you joy.
